Location: Located in the south-west of the Lake District, Chapels is a small and picturesque hamlet that sits between the nearby mountains and the sea. Surrounding by a patchwork of fields that lead down to the coast, Chapels is a chocolate-box setting from which to explore the local region. The history of Broughton-in-Furness dates back to the 11th Century, with the oldest building thought to be St Mary's Church, first built in Saxon times. In Elizabethan times a charter was granted to hold fairs, and it is in the Square that the annual reading of the Charter takes place on 1st August. In northern Cumbria the peaceful villages of Caldbeck and Ireby offer a haven of solitude and tranquillity. To the east lies the green and sheltered Eden Valley. Its dramatic landscape provides a range of activities including walking, cycling and water sports and is home to the Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre and Lowther Wildlife Park.
