Fisherground Farmhouse is situated in the heart of Eskdale, one of the most tranquil valleys of the Lake District. It is one of our largest properties, offering comfortable and spacious group accommodation for up to 16 people.
With a large south facing garden and fantastic views of the surrounding fells, Fisherground is an ideal base for exploring the mountains, rivers, lakes and tarns of this beautiful part of Cumbria.
Eskdale is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing. The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to the sea.
There are five pubs in the valley, three of which are within walking distance of the cottage (the George IV, the nearest, is just 10 mins walk). All welcome children and serve real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop, Eskdale Stores, sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. A public payphone is located 400 yards away from the farmhouse and there is some reception for mobile phones on the Orange network.
