Details: Lunefield Farmhouse is a striking 19th Century detached three-storey house, renovated to a high standard. Set in a wonderful position on the banks of the River Lune, it has magnificent views of the river and hills beyond. The house has its own grounds of approximately 2 acres, with a large lawn to the front (garden furniture provided) and a hill behind, where you will be able to spot plenty of birds including our pheasants and resident owl (not too noisy). The house is perfect for families or gatherings of friends: set in a secluded and quiet river-side location, yet only a five minute walk via a steep hill to the friendly pubs and restaurants of Kirkby Lonsdale. Motor vehicles are permitted for access only on the river bank, so you will be undisturbed, except by the families of rabbits who treat the garden as their own. Just on your doorstep are walks along the River Lune, either to the medieval Devil’s Bridge, with plenty of swimming and paddling places (fishing permits can also be purchased in town), or to the radical steps to see the view Ruskin called the most beautiful in England.

Kirkby Lonsdale is a delightful quaint market town, with a great selection of real-ale pubs, cafés, and family-run shops where you can try local produce, plus a thriving market every Thursday. We recommend the butchers for local meat, the bakery (try its custard pies…) and the cheese-shop with its energetic pianist. There are often concerts in the beautiful Norman parish church, and good walks all around town.

To the north west are Windermere and the Southern Lake District. Here you can take a steamer cruise up Lake Windermere or visit Bowness, Ambleside or the market town of Kendal, the Gateway to the Lakes. Nearby are the historic buildings of Levens Hall, world famous for its topiary garden, and Sizergh Castle. To the east is the equally stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, with its truly beautiful rolling dales and vales, and full of visitor attractions, walks and cycle ways.
