A superb base for exploring the Lakes by foot, bike or car, sampling great Cumbrian fayre ordered in advance through our unique pre-arrival service. Our location to the north of Keswick lies in an area of the Lake District which is unspoilt by mass tourism, yet which offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The North Lakes Fells, which rise up from Bassenthwaite, Ullswater and Derwentwater lakes, include such famous mountain peaks as Skiddaw and Blencathra. Here a traditional rural way of life proceeds at a refreshingly less frenetic pace, giving visitors a rare opportunity to relax and connect with the natural world. North Lakes Spa During your stay why not pamper yourself at Cumbria’s finest membership-only leisure club. All guests at Monkhouse Hill have full free-of-charge access to the superb leisure facilities at the exclusive North Lakes Spa in Penrith; about 15 minutes drive from the cottages. The Cottages Monkhouse Hill comprises of nine 4 and 5 star cottages that sleep between 2 and 14 persons. All cottages have their own bathroom with shower over(Cloven Stone has 2 en-suites), and bedrooms consist of doubles, twins and singles. There is a spa/sauna in most couples cottages. All have full central heating and double glazing and most have an open fire/log stove. A shared laundry room is available. Kitchens include: cookers with ovens and hobs (Great Calva has two of each), microwave cookers, kettles, toasters and coffee makers; refrigerators, those without freezers have freezer boxes in the fridge and access to a shared freezer in the guests laundry room; crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils; fire extinguishers and fire blankets. Family cottages all have a dishwasher, and the larger ones have a washer dryer. Entertainment Equipment: colour TV with digital Freeview(Great Calva and Brae Fell cottages also have a second TV/video); video and DVD players; access to large video/DVD library; hi-fi with tuner, cassette and CD player; selection of family games; additional children's toy boxes available. Outside : The cottages each have a small patio area in the courtyard, with garden tables, and chairs. BBQ equipment is available. All guests have use of our 2 acres of grass paddock, which is ideal for picnics, ball games and dog exercising, and of course the children’s adventure playground and fully equipped indoor games room with pool, table football and table tennis.
