Art & Crafts
For people who enjoy shopping for arts and crafts the Lake District is a paradise. The area's history includes many famous and renowned writers and poets. This love of the arts has continued into the 21st century with many local artists opening small outlets for their work. All the towns and most of the larger villages have small, independently run, arts and craft shops. Some of these sell work by local artists whereas others provide the equipment needed to pursue your own artistic vision. Knitting was once the favourite pastime for grandmothers only, but now is a very popular hobby for people of all ages. The Lake District has always had sheep farming and wool of all descriptions is readily available in the local shops for the knitting enthusiast.
