Arts & Crafts

The Lake District is a great place to enjoy arts and crafts and has a rich heritage relating to both. It's impossible to talk about the arts in the Lake District without mentioning the romantic poetry that emanated from the area during the early 19th century. William Wordsworth was the most famous proponent of this movement, one of England's most famous poets who inspired a generation and drew most of his ideas from the area he loved so much. Dove Cottage in Grasmere hold's the Wordsworth Museum and Art Gallery, telling the full story of his career. Crafts also have a strong basis in the region with many craft workshops making and selling a range of items.
