Within this Lake District Events Guide you will find a variety of days out, things do and events in and around the Lake District National Park. No matter what age group or mix; a family group, couples or friends, the Lake District has it all. With so many different events at any one time, there is always something to suit your taste. In the summer months there’s a wealth of festivals, fairs and shows to visit, but the beauty of the Lake District is its all year round entertainment and you will always find plenty to do during the winter months too!Enjoy a guided walk on a crisp winters morning or if you fancy something more cosy join in one of the rocking music festivals.

Cockermouth Georgian Fair - 3rd May 2008
Our historic past brought to life in the newly revitalised Market Place and across the town. Period Craft and Farmers’ Street Market. “Streetlife 1778” -Journey from the Castle to Wordsworth House including all nooks and crannies. Music and dancing, with over 100 performers across the town. Redcoat Display, Street Theatre and Circus Skills.Instrumental and choral concerts throughout the day. Costume Parade, Sedan Chair Racing, Exhibitions, Craft Demonstrations.Special events at Wordsworth House .
The 17th JENNINGS Keswick Jazz Festival Wed 7 – Sun 11 May 2008
Keswick’s 5-day festival will once again bring together many of the world’s finest exponents of mainstream and traditional jazz.
Ullswater Walking Festival 10th - 16th May 2008
Following the success of this years Walking Festival. The dates have now been set for a week long festival this year. There will be a wide range of walks for everyone of all abilities, from a gentle stroll to a more strenuous hike. Due to the popularity of the Helvellyn walk this will be run more times over the week long festival, as well as some of the more popular walks and some lesser known walks and the introduction of some new walks for next year. Informative local guides will be used giving visitors an insight into the beautiful Ullswater valley.
June:
Windermere on Water 6th-8th and 13th-15th June 2008.
The WOW Factor will be put back in to Windermere again.
July:
The 2008 Coniston Water Festival 11-12th July 2008.
The festival is a week long series of events centered on Coniston Water and the valley, with a boat dressing and water parade as one of the centre pieces of the festival. This years Festival will take the best and most successful elements of old and add some new events centered on creativity and enjoyment.
The Cumberland Country Show 19th July 2008
The 2008 Show will be held Rickerby Park, Carlisle.
The Penrith Agricultural Show Saturday 26th July 2008
The Penrith Agricultural Society was formed in 1833 with the Society promoting the first Penrith Show the following year. This took place on Friday, 26th September, the venue being a field adjoining Croft House, Penrith. Since then the Society has grown in size and prominence now operating from its current site at Brougham Hall Farm, (by kind permission of the late Mr A Helme) on the fourth Saturday in July each year, this year's show being on 28th July. The Society's aim is to promote the good of agriculture and livestock breeding in and around Penrith, to promote British Food & Farming in general and the drawing together of town and country for their mutual benefit.
The Cumbria Steam Gathering Sat 26 and Sun 27 July 2008
The 2008 Cumbria Steam Gathering is as huge as ever with more than 1,200 classic exhibits, a traditional fair, displays, specialist caterers and crafts. This colourful and noisy 2-day summer event has a whole host of family entertainment and vintage transport favourites as diverse as tractors, classic cars, majestic steam engines, commercial vehicles and motorcycles.

Brough Agricultural Show Thursday 21 August 2008
Brough Agricultural Show is organised by the Brough Agricultural Society & is the122nd show. Competitions for ponies, sheep, poultry, horticultural vegetables & flowers, confectionery, needlework, etc. The show is held at Leacett Lane Brough, Cumbria, CA17 4. Starting time 10.00am for main events but Stone Walling starts at 9.00am.

Kirkby Lonsdale Victorian Fair Sat 6 - Sun 7 Sept 2008
Every year the residents of Kirkby Lonsdale take a step back to Victorian times to see the splendour of an age gone by. On average, the two-day Victorian Fair attracts in excess of 20,000 people and there is something for everyone. Come and enjoy the old-fashioned and varied entertainments taking place throughout the town over the weekend.
