January Events & Activities

Review what's on in January in the Lake District & Cumbria:

If you would like to include your event here, please email details to info@stayin.net.

Houghton Farmer's Market - second Saturday of the month at Houghton village hall from 9am-1pm. There is a wide selection of meat, cheese, bread, cakes, hot food, preserves and lots of craft stalls too. Along side is a coffee morning run by different local charities and organisiations each month.

Brampton Farmer's Market - The market runs from 9.00 to 1.30 on the last Saturday of every month, except December, when it is the third Saturday.

Orton Farmers' Market - held on the second Saturday of every month, with over 35 local farmers, growers, producers & artisan craftsmen offer a tremendous variety of high quality and speciality local produce and crafts.

Kendal Farmers Market - Shop for the very best in local foods and enjoy all that this vibrant market town has to offer. This event is held on the last Friday of each month and is organised by Made in Cumbria.

Lake District Winter Skills - A range of winter courses where we aim to provide you with essential skills of navigating, safe travel, avalanche awareness and hillwalking in the winter mountains. This courses are ideal for those with some experience in the hills in summer conditions who are looking to progress to winter walking. Courses will be based in the Borrowdale Valley where there is plenty of accommodation available, including the Borrowdale YHA. Keswick is also only a short distance away.

The Big Sleep  - Join Cumbria Community Foundation at the Low Wood Bay Hotel, Ambleside Road, Windermere, LA23 1LP, for a night of entertainment and fundraising to support vulnerable older people within the Lake District and Cumbria. You are asked to leave the comfort of your warm home, brace the cold winter air and spend a night sleeping under the stars. In a bad winter 300 older people in Cumbria can die because of the effects of the cold weather – by spending one night camping out overlooking Windermere, you could help keep one older person safe and warm over the winter months. Entertainment, food and refreshments and overnight parking are all available; just bring yourself, your tent and sleeping bag and your winter woollies to keep you warm! Last year the Big Sleep raised more than £15,000 for the Winter Warmth Appeal and fundraising is simple; click on the link above and use a traditional sponsorship form or create a JustGiving page. Starts  2pm on Saturday and finishes 9am, Sunday. Price: Over 16s £30, under 16s £5.
