Amazing 121 Mega Pixel Image of The Earth from Space

The image was taken by a Russian Satellite and is the first time the Earth has been captured in one single picture. Previous images of the Earth taken by NASA and other space agencies normally involve taking several images and electronically 'stitching' them together.

Never before have we seen our beautiful blue planet in so much detail and so clearly. This is the view you would get looking out of a space shuttle at 36,000Km above the Earths surface. The satellite is programmed to take an image every 30 minutes, although this can be increased to every 10 minutes remotely from Russia. The vegetation appears in a red colour as oppose to the green you might expect due to the combination of visible and near-infrared wavelengths used to take the shot.
