Christmas & New Year in the Breathtaking Lake District

The atmospheric Lake District will be host once again this year to numerous Christmas and New Year festivities and events, with a whole host of traditional markets, craft fairs and activities to bring forth the excitement of the season. Beautifully lit towns and village squares welcome visitors to come and experience the magic and surprise of the local shops, hotels and eateries which are perfect venues for families and friends to gather.

Lake District Christmas Fairs begin in November and offer the ideal place to find those unique and hand made gifts to impress and delight all ages. Kirkby Lonsdale hosts an exciting two day event at the beginning of December which includes a light switch on by Santa and his helpers after they parade through town headed by a traditional brass band. Street entertainers and a Santa's Grotto complete the festive scene and delicious locally produced goodies are sold from stall vendors in the market square, filling the streets with wonderful aromas.

Bowness Pier in Windermere sees the launch of two Santa Cruises and a parade through the village on the last Saturday of November. The Christmas lights will be switched on and there will be street entertainment, music, food, drink and children's games. The evening will end with a firework display at Queens Park and is an excellent day out for all the family. Saint Thomas Church in Kendal is to host an evening of choral singing at a Christmas Concert on December 14th.

Many of the local hotels and guest houses are offering festive party nights and excellent rates for accommodation which is perfect for spending the holidays with friends or family. Local walks make the ideal after party activity for the New Year as the breathtaking scenery and fresh air are sure to refresh and invigorate those over indulged bodies.
