Christmas Market comes to Carlisle

Carlisle City Council have organised an open air Christmas market which will be held in the pedestrianised area of the city centre. This festive market will run for eleven days beginning on Thursday the 23rd November until Sunday the 3rd December.

The market will consist of around thirty different stalls selling produce both locally sourced and from further afield. The market will be open from 9.00 am to 5.00pm on Monday to Saturday with extended opening on Thursday until 7.00 pm. On Sundays the opening hours are from 11.00am to 4.00pm. On Saturday the 2nd December there will also be a Farmers Market with the theme concentrating on ‘Made in Cumbria'. Visitors to the market will be able to buy foodstuffs from various suppliers including Bella Paella, Big Pan Cuisine, Countrystyle Fruit & Veg, Lakeland Steaks, Carwinley Preserves and The Little Bakery. Why not call at The Cocktail Bar for festive drinks or pick up something new to wear from one of the clothing outlets which include Edinburgh Outdoor Clothing, Ness Clothing and Highlander Country Clothing. If you are stuck for Christmas gifts then check out the stalls of Lakeland Fragrances, Something Precious and Java Crafts. There will also be live entertainment on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons ranging from brass bands to street entertainers including contact jugglers and stilt walkers.

The city's Christmas Lights will be switched on at 5.00pm on Sunday 19th November outside the Old Town Hall with plenty of free entertainment beforehand.
