Full Description: Appleby Castle a 12th century Norman Keep can be found deep in the heart of the beautiful Eden Valley at the high end of Boroughgate, in the quaint village of Appleby-in-Westmorland.

The castle which was built when William II won back most of Westmorland from the Scots in 1902 is set in 25 acres of parkland. It is an impressive building and fantastic views of the surrounding area can be seen from Ceaser’s Tower. The castles most striking feature is the dwelling house which was built in the 17th century by the Earl of Thanet who was Lady Anne Clifford’s grandson. As well as been able to see the paintings and furnishings inside the Great Hall, a bedroom with a beautifully carved four poster bed as well as a dining room have recently been opened.

The grounds are open to take walks in and a variety of breeds of sheep, pheasants, goats, doves, hens, ducks, teals and geese can be seen wandering around.
