Appleby Castle a 12th century Norman Keep can be found deep in the heart of the beautiful Eden Valley at the high end of Boroughgate, in the quaint village of Appleby-in-Westmorland.The castle which was built when William II won back most of Westmorland from the Scots in 1902 is set in 25 acres of parkland.

An impressive building with fantastic views of the surrounding area which can be seen from Caesars Tower. From the roof of the tower, which is open to the public the views are stunning.The castles most striking feature is the dwelling house which was built in the 17th century by the Earl of Thanet who was Lady Anne Clifford’s grandson.

As well as the paintings and furnishings on display inside the Great Hall, a bedroom with a beautifully carved four poster bed and an impressive dining room have recently been opened.The grounds are open to visitors to walk around and a variety of breeds of sheep, pheasants, goats, doves, hens, ducks, teals and geese can be seen wandering about.
