Hide at RSPB Leighton Moss

Arnside and Silverdale is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty set in the stunning Cumbrian countryside, and is amongst the smallest areas of protected wildlife habitat in the United Kingdom.

The diverse landscape and scenery of this area includes ancient woodlands, rolling heaths and breathtaking coastlines. The abundant wildlife here, including migrant birds from all over the world makes it a fantastic place to visit and discover the habitat of hundreds of species of wild flowers, birds, bats, butterflies and mammals amongst the miles of unspoiled grasslands.

Walkers and cyclists are attracted to the area by the numerous tracks and bridleways which run through the countryside and take in many pretty villages, offering spectacular views on all sides. There are rocky outcrops which are popular with climbers and fell runners. The towns and villages here are of great historic importance and there are remains of settlements dating back to Roman times and beyond. Several hill forts, burial sites and many ruined buildings from medieval times are ideally situated to seek out and explore.

There are plenty of visitor attractions locally including the RSPB Leighton Moss reserve, which offers a visitor centre and tea room. For railway enthusiasts there is the Carnforth Station Heritage Centre with interesting exhibits, gift shop, retail outlets and cafe. For a taste of heritage there is the spectacular Gothic Leighton Hall with its breathtaking gardens, offering a perfect day out for all the family. The Hawk Garden has wonderful falconry displays and demonstrations with guided "Hawk walks" to keep its many visitors entertained.
