Full Description: Situated at the tip of the Furness Peninsula, Barrow-in-Furness is an undiscovered gem, with its tree lined streets and a wealth of fine building typified by the imposing red sandstone Town Hall.

Barrow is Cumbria’s largest town where major national stores such as Dagenham’s, Littlewoods and Marks and Spencer mingle with local specialist shops in a spacious pedestrainised town centre. For the bargain hunter, Barrow’s indoors Market has over 80 stalls and is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Vibrant Night Life
For connoisseurs of night life and entertainment Barrow has a wealth of excellent restaurants and lots of lively pubs. Renowned at the clubbing capital Cumbria there are many night clubs to choose from along Cornwallis Street. For families there are delights of Barrow Superbowl, Apollo Multiplex Cinema, Wacky Warehouse and Lazerzone.

Places to Visit
Furness Abbey, founded in 1127, is a magnificent ruin of one of the wealthiest Cistercian Abbeys in England. Piel Castle, a 14th Century defensive stronghold on the remote Piel Island, can be reached by ferry. Dalton-in-Furness, the ancient capital of Furness, is home to South Lakes Wild Animal Park which offers a unique safari on foot with many animals in natural surroundings. Barrow has three internationally renowned Nature Reserves, two on Walney and one at Sandscale Haws. Barrow is surrounded by miles of beaches, each unique in character. The main beaches are on Walney Island, at Roanhead and Rampside.

The Dock Museum

Barrows’s flagship attraction, The Dock Museum, is housed in a stunning Victorian dry dock. The displays look at the maritime, industrial and social history of the town, with multi-media interactive for all the family to enjoy.

All parts of the museum are wheelchair accessible there is a hearing loop on “reflections in the Dock" film show and information available in large print and Braille.
