One of Britain’s finest art houses, Blackwell has survived the years in a remarkably well preserved state. Most of the original decorative features remain, still to be admired by visitors and art lovers from all over the world. The delicate hessian wall-hangings which are an extremely rare sight today are still on view in the Dining Room.

The attention to detail in the house is everywhere, from the leaf-shaped door handles and the quaint window catches, to the extremely decorative plasterwork, the stained glass windows and the hand carved wooden panelling. Containing such a wide variety of artistic style in one place keeps art enthusiasts fascinated.

Blackwell is of international importance as it stands at the crossroads of modern and Victorian design and most of the original interior decoration is still in tact. £3.5 million has been put into Blackwell to restore it and open it up to the public as a gallery focusing on Arts and Crafts.
