The Furness Railway offers a trip back in time for visitors, who are treated to a nostalgic ride on an historic steam train. The magnificent station has been restored and there are state of the art facilities including a restaurant and disabled access.

A visit to the Furness Railway has always been a great day out. Now updated and renovated it is a wonderful way of looking back at the history of locomotives and still fascinates visitors of all ages. Hop aboard the Furness Steam Railway for a journey through time.

Built in 1863, our flagship locomotive has been restored to its original condition in a £140,000 project. Discover the engine's amazing story, unravel the riddle of its true identity, see the picture gallery, and read the book!

As a working museum piece, it is not appropriate to use Furness Railway Number 20 on general service trains on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, because of the severity of the gradients, the weight of the trains and the intensity of the timetable

The station too has undergone recent renovations, with the replacement of most of the waiting areas and the old seating. Also the automatic doors have been replaced within the station. New electronic information signs have been installed, along with state of the art CCTV.

Ramps have been provided for ease of access, and this is extending to the provision of improved access to platforms 2 and 3, which previously would have been accessible only via the very end of the platform.
