Full Description:
Grasmere is a beautiful and charming village located in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Close by are the ‘honey pot’ towns of Hawkshead, Ambleside, Coniston Keswick, Bowness and Windermere.

To the north west of Grasmere, is Helm Crag, with Nab Scar and Rydal Fell lying to the east, and Silver Howe and Yew Crag to the west. The River Rothay also runs close by. The houses in Grasmere are constructed from the locally quarried grey green stone, so evocative of the region. The surrounding area is noted for its beautiful, tranquil scenery and there are many delightful walks, which inspired much of the poet William Wordsworth’s best works, he described the area as "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found".

To the south of the village is Grasmere Lake. Here you find some gentle walks amongst the lower ground around the lake. If you prefer a bigger challenge, Grasmere is centrally located for taking on the likes of Helvellyn, Scafell Pikes, Skiddaw and the Langdale Pikes.

Grasmere, has right on its doorstep some of the finest and most popular tourist attractions in the UK that depict the history and culture of a rich and varied county.

The poet William Wordsworth once resided in Grasmere, and visitors today can visit two of his former homes - Rydal Mount and Dove Cottage, together with St. Oswald’s Church, which is home to the Wordsworth family graves. You could also go further a field and explore attractions associated with Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin.

Grasmere has plenty of shops to keep you occupied. Whether you're looking for gifts to take back home, or just everyday produce, you can find it all in Grasmere.

Grasmere is famous for gingerbread and other fine food, and many restaurants have been awarded AA rosettes, reserved for establishments serving only the best food alongside first class wine lists. There is a fine selection eateries in and around Grasmere where you can enjoy a meal, or a relaxing pint.

Grasmere Festival of Stars takes place on the last weekend in November every year. The residents attempt to re-create William Wordsworth's description of their village in the poem "Home at Grasmere" by filling the village with stars of all shapes and sizes. It is a sight not to be missed!
