Details for Loweswater

Loweswater one of the most attractive Lake's in Cumbria
Loweswater is situated not far from Cockermouth and can be easily reached from other areas of West Cumbria. Loweswater is a small lake and the village of Loweswater lies at the foot of the lake. Loweswater Lake is just over a mile long, half a mile in width and 60ft deep, it is owned by the National Trust and was once connected to Crummock Water.
Loweswater is perhaps one of the nicest and attractive Lakes in the Lake District, and the vale of Lorton in which it is situated is still a very peaceful place and relatively un- commercialised with few tourists.
To the south of Loweswater is a group of fells known as Loweswater Fells and consists of Blake Fell, Burnbank fell, Gravel Fell, Mellbreak and Hen Comb.
Loweswater is more unusual than the other lakes found in the Lake District because it drains towards the centre of the Lake District. Rolling hills surround Loweswater which is a contrast to the Rocky Mountains found elsewhere in the Lake District. Loweswater is a quiet lake which remains relatively untouched by tourism. There is a popular lakeside path which goes the whole way round the lake. The small forest of Holme Wood can be found on the south side of the lake. Within the forest there is the beautiful waterfall called Holme Force, which is normally missed as it is not visible from the lakeside path.
Rowing boats are available for rent from the lakeside although the use of your own boats is not permitted.
