Full Description: Ravenglass is the only coastal village actually within the Lake District National Park Boundaries. Ravenglass is perfectly situated for exploring the western lakes and is very close to England’s highest peak and deepest lakes of Scafell Pike and Wast Water. There are fantastic views as you travel to Ambleside over Wrenos & Hardknott Pass, the views are nothing short of spectacular, but not for the faint hearted! (And not for caravans either!!)

For many years Ravenglass was the haunt of smugglers, and is still one of the Lake District best kept secrets. The village boats an excellent Roman Bath House just one of the examples of this village’s long history dating back to the Roman times. Almost 250yrs ago the village was a thriving port as it is built upon the estuary of 3 rivers. Which are now more renowned for a bird sanctuary.

Some of the main tourist attractions within the region include the Eskdale and Ravenglass Railway and Muncaster Castle. Hill walkers, bird watchers, rambler’s railway enthusiasts alike will all find Ravenglass a great place to stay as there is something to suit all tastes.

Many walks start or finish at Ravenglass making it a perfect base for walkers, several walks in the area include the Ravenglass to Scarborough, Lakeland to Lindisfarne, Cumberland Way and Furness Way. Ravenglass is conveniently served by Northwest Trains on the Barrow to Carlisle line.
