The RSPB reserve based at Haweswater is an important ornithological site, as the home of nesting Golden Eagles. The area is teeming with many species of birds and has an abundance of wildlife, including insects and rare flora. 

The RSPB site at Haweswater is the place to see amazing birds and wildlife, with fascinating viewings of birdlife at its best.

The native woodlands, streams and rugged fells of the Lake District attract birds and wildlife by the thousand to this abundant area. Haweswater is a particularly stunning area for naturalists and nature lovers, definately bring along your binoculars and camera!

Its claim to fame is that Haweswater is the only place in England where golden eagles nest. An observation point is open during the breeding season. It is reached from the western end of Haweswater, 1.25 miles (2 km) along an uneven path.

Opening times: The reserve is always open, observation point 11 am to 4 pm April to August.
