Full Description: Located in the heart of the lake District Rydal Water is a small lake less than a mile long, 55 ft deep and a quarter of a mile wide.

Rydal Water is located between Ambleside and Grasmere near to the hamlet of Rydal in the Rothay Valley. William Wordsworth lived in Rydal for 37 years and Dove Cottage was one of his homes whilst living there.

Nab Cottage which overlooks the Rydal Lake was once home to Thomas de Quincey, the historic Rydal Hall is located close by.

There are a number of walks around the fells and hills surrounding Rydal Water including a circular walk around the lake itself, there is also one which takes you to Rydal Cave. To the west of the lake, there are steps which lead to Wordsworth Seat, which Wordsworth considered to be his favourite view point in the Lake District
