Details for The Rum Story

The Rum Story is a unique visitor experience based in the Georgian town of Whitehaven. The story of the Dark Spirit of Whitehaven, is an interactive family attraction which illustrates the history of the UK rum trade which originally centered on the port.

Imagine leaving the streets of our Georgian town centre and feeling like you have been transported to an exotic island in the Caribbean. That is what you will experience when you begin your journey through The Rum Story.

Set in the original 1785 shop, courtyards, cellars and bonded warehouses of the Jefferson family, The Rum Story has been authentically designed to provide all-weather family entertainment.

During your visit you will travel through a tropical rainforest, an African village, a realistic slave ship, Cumbrian cottages, a Cooper's workshop and much, much more.

Groups: With a coach drop-off point at our front door and many special offers and discounts, we promise groups of any size and age a truly unforgettable day out.

Hospitality: We are fortunate in that we have several areas available for hospitality use, with a 20-seat boardroom, an education suite capable of comfortably seating 75 people and the vault area with options ranging from 62 seated at one long table to 150 people in a theatre style.

The events already held have been varied with Wedding receptions, Annual General Meetings, Book launches, Government Planning meetings, Astronomical Society exhibitions, Legal and Community works and Musical events.
