Shopping in the Lake District is wide and varied. There are picturesque little market towns with unique shops and old fashioned market squares. There are also trendy modern shopping centres housing major high street retailers. Whatever your preference there is something to suit everyone.

Villages in the Lake District have many small shops which are usually found tucked away behind the hussle and bustle of the main high street. The larger towns are also home to many high street brands, so there is plenty of variety and something for everyone. 

The majority of shopping is concentrated around Kendal and Windermere in the southern area of the lakes. In Kendal you can find a mix of factory outlet shops, chain names, traditional markets and specialty shops. There are quite lanes and courtyards situated around the market place and it is here that you will find the most interesting shops. Kendal outdoor market fills the town every Saturday and Wednesday.

Keswick in the northern lakes has a fantastic choice of outdoor shops, craft shops, bookstores and wool-clothing stores which are hidden away on the cobbled streets.

The Lake District is well known for is specality dishes including - cumberland sausage, Gingerbread from Grasmere, Kendal Mintcake, Hawkshead Relishand Sticky Toffee Pudding from Cartmel.So don't forget to pick up a treat to take home!
