Bassenthwaite Overview
Bassenthwaite Village is located in the north western region of the Lake District National Park, just a short drive north from the bustling market town of Keswick.
Just two miles from the village is Bassenthwaite Lake, owned by the National Park Authority, and is 3/4 mile wide and 4 miles long (one of the longest), but surprisingly one of the shallowest (70 ft). Boats from Bassenthwaite Sailing Club can often be seen on the water and add to its charm. It is the most northerly of the lakes, with no major settlements on its shores.There is a footpath which runs the west shore, but except at Mirehouse, there is no access to the east side.
