Inns & Pubs

Visiting a traditional village pub is an essential part of any visit to the Lake District. Many of the pubs in this region offer locally brewed beers and even locally produced food as an accompaniment. When travellers first began to recognise the Lake District as a destination to visit over 400 years ago they perceived the mountains to be impassable, though this was not completely true, it was a very barren place. The inns that often contained a pub too provided vital lodgings for anyone trying to traverse the hills. Some of these inns are still functioning and provide a welcome alternative to the Travel Lodge!
